Observations from the Balcony – themes affecting clients potential this week.

In focus this week: Life is always testing us through good times and challenging times.

I can honestly say that it has been a testing week and it has been hard to sit down and write. I had a challenging incident with a neighbour last Thursday that resulted in me having to have a beautiful tree chainsaw massacred in my garden. I have felt like I was physically chain sawed, and I have experienced hip and back pain all over again, having just emerged out of a 3-month process that has had me unable to run and oftentimes, barely able to walk.

The truth is, this year came in with the intention to challenge, I’m sure a number of you feel the same. I have not felt completely robust (in my definition – able to push on through) since a retreat I attended in March, as part of Thomas Hubl’s Timeless Wisdom Training programme. I have been on this programme for over a year now, and each retreat (in-person and online) has put my body into a healing crisis. If you know me, you know that I need to feel good and strong in my body so that I can do the things I want to do. When I can’t, I notice my mindset takes a real dive and negative internal dialogue sets in. This happened this last week, and I have felt like I have regressed in my own development journey, but the magic is that I have been able to see and hear myself in it.

The gratitude I have for the gifts of this programme (including amazing Triad work with beautiful souls) are astounding in terms of processing individual, ancestral and collective trauma and the beauty that I see emerging is a newfound capacity to observe, sense and hold everything (the negative and positive) and actively participate in mastering my mood, mindset and physical experience. It is a new feeling, and one where I am beginning to understand that the more we are able to heal the traumas of the past, the more of ourselves is able to come online, so to speak, and so we can allow transgressions to flow through us instead of taking up residence within us.

Our traumas and those of our ancestors are a source of numbness and absence to the fullness of this human experience. Therefore, the point of this week’s observation is that life is meant to feel intense, and as we make more of ourselves available and capacitated, it makes it ok to not be ok sometimes because we are able to honour ourselves and others in the not being ok instead of projecting our pain all over the place. We need to be building the capacity to just be with whatever is, in a compassionate, nurturing and nourishing way towards ourselves and others.

I don’t get it right all the time because being conscious about my experience versus the experience of others is my life’s work this time around, but this week has shown me that I am making progress in terms of a deeper attunement to self, and this restores a deeper trust in my ability to deal with what life offers in the interests of my growth.

So, what to do:

  1. The invitation to notice what the body is feeling, where you are feeling it and why? The body gets tight, sore, and ultimately diseased when it has run out of resources to hold the extent of the mental and emotional issues we fail to process adequately.
  2. Create or find spaces where you can express your reality from your physical, emotional, and mental bodies and find some co-regulation with people who can hold space without judgement or needing to solve for you. We need more intuitive and compassionate listening spaces.
  3. Move the body, get out for a walk, do some stretching or yoga, go for a run if you can; but MOVE. The body is built to move, and it processes and shifts the chemical nature of itself when we allow it, which helps to shift our states.
  4. Create some time and space to calm and quiet the mind and nervous system – meditate, breathe or have a cup of tea and breathe while sitting on a bench enjoying your garden or a special view.

If you are serious about understanding yourself more deeply and you recognise that something within you has to change, you can reach me at [email protected] or book a free session at www.thepotentialityco.com/meetings/ .
