The BUSYNESS trap and how it limits our EXPERIENCE

by Wendy Nagel, April 21, 2017

Permission to PAUSE and REFLECT on what you are creating in your life.

Very recently, in fact on Wednesday the 19th of April, I unceremoniously hit the wall. By the time the afternoon cruised in, I was completely spent on a mental and emotional level – this was a new level of exhaustion even for me. Talk about an encounter with my own capacity.

Fortunately, I had a 2 hour PAUSE to breathe and reflect in coaching supervision. A space and time in which permission is granted to reflect on what is going on and to get in touch with the life I create and manifest daily.

The moral of the story, is that none of us deserve to be living a life we need to retreat from.

The invitation is to be consciously hitting the PAUSE button to reflect on the quality of our hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly experiences. Life as we know it, is really of our own creation – tough to acknowledge but true. When we can catch ourselves, we have the benefit of choice and taking responsibility for our lives instead of remaining in a place of reaction to it.

In today’s time poor and highly demanded of way of living, coaching allows for this PAUSE and grants permission to BUSY people to stop the clock and reflect with an accountability partner. In doing so, they have a more considered impact and influence within the environments in which they operate – both on the people and on the business.

BUSYNESS so easily becomes our narrative, and I am asking myself and my clients, “How do we take the quality of life and working environments to next level when we are just BUSY everyday?”

I would love to hear your thoughts on this, so please leave a comment.

When I'm busy working, i dont feel like I am creating. When I am too tired to work and stop being busy, I am too tired to create. Back in the day hard work paid off, now that is no longer enough, we have to create. But where do we find the balance between time spent earning and time spent creating?

    • Hey Claudia, I hear you on that precarious balance between a hard fulfilling days work and the remaining energy to then get creative...its a very real challenge. Its important to look at where you're wasting time in a day and to redefine that into useful time to create. If there's none of that, then its really up to each individual to determine what they need to establish in their routines that will allow for working hard at our passions AND time for creating and deepening our craft. Only you can decide what you need to be able to play in both. Once you decide, you need to carve out the time to support your goals and then be very clear on the boundaries that protect that sacred time. It's important to realise that every time we say YES to someone else, we end up saying NO to ourselves. I hope this helps. Be well. Fondest Wendy

Hi Wendy, I agree fully and love the question. I see with myself how easy it is to get stuck in the busyness autopilot and it requires a lot of self discipline and self Care to say NO, which then comes with guilt. What helps me is realising that this too is a habit I need to cultivate if I choose conscious living.

    • Hey Priyal, Re-programming our stories requires constant vigilance and I so resonate with the fact that saying NO is the ultimate in self-discipline and love. When we do this, we offer the best version of ourselves. Much love, Wendy
